Even if AlmapBBDO was elected agency of the year in Cannes 2010, we can't forget that Brazil is in an unstoppable rising since few years. And a lot of agencies are sharing the accolades. I really like this Integrated Campaign (Silver in Titanium) from Nazca/Saatchi to save water. This is a 'fresh' creative angle that is changing our point of view on charity business communication which can be either creative/not touching or boring/not touching. And the irreverent mood would attract the young generations that will make our future brighter...and a bit more smelly indeed.

South Africa Fight

Of course, there is the World Cup. Of course, there is Cannes Lions festival (gold in the film category). But moreover, this great film from Ogilvy South Africa is a great wake-up call for a sickness that we tend to forget too often.

New Faces

BRIC countries are obviously new faces that count in advertising industry now.

Everybody would say that this was easy with an advertiser like Burger King which is ready to go for non-standard and viral ideas. Lacking budget is sometimes not bad. But what Ogilvy Brazil did here is absolutely crystal clear and straightforward. A nice and simple expression of the brand proposition, without altering the speech with promo or secondary interest (Whopper Sacrifice was great but still not completely strategically clean). A nice idea that is brilliant by its accuracy.

We've talked already a lot about Ronaldinho, trying his new shoes and playing with the goal bar. We've mentioned everywhere Kobe Bryant jumping over the car. Ali was pushing the limits with his mates and his daughter. Again, Ben Arfa was becoming a specialist of the petanque (French balls) for Nike as well or Zidane tricking a little boy thanks to his new fantastic glasses. And we've seen many times Bruce Lee training with his nunchaku.
But what I like, even if the creative leverage is the same, is the fact that these Bruce Lee pieces are quite innocent and naive. They don't want to sell so much the product, in this case, a Nokia phone. They just celebrate the man, the hero, the icon and get a link to a limited edition. That approach refreshes an old idea, gives it a sense of excitement, gets away for the product features or advantages. Probably, that's why that Chinese ad seduced the Cannes Lions Jury 2009.

Brazilian Ban

The One Show has decided to ban fake ads that run once to qualify for award shows. The move comes after DDB Brazil created a tumultuous creative campaign based on 11.09 attacks for the WWF. They first denied, and then admitted, the agency was the creator. The campaign was entered as well in the Cannes festival.

The One Club has decided to ban the team from their festival for a period of 5 years. That is the first time that such a scandal is following the theme of scam-ads (ghosts) in international advertising festival. Everybody knows, everybody does, everybody criticizes but nobody wants to take action. This is all done now.

I'm afraid all that comes out for the wrong reason. As the US sensitivity got that campaign highly negatively, I suppose it pushed the institution to that decision. All a debate.

New Creativity Landscape

The last Festival de Cannes said a lot. It confirmed new trends that everybody had in mind since a long time. The axis US-UK-France is tired...Nothing amazing is coming from developed countries anymore.

And what do we see around the corner? Small agencies in emerging countries are counting more and more. Brazil performed like never before, India is challenging the big nations, China and Russia are not there but it's a question of time. And a lot of new countries are battling for big prizes with even more envy.

This blog is dedicated to their effort (our effort as I work since 3 years in Russia) and dedicated to the fresh and vibrant ideas they generate.
